I'm Deborah

Does it happen overnight? No, of course not. It takes work to build a life and work to build a business. Working hard is good, we should all know how to do this but working smart is better.

We are in a time like no other. The high expectations for the New Year 2020 quickly changed as the Covid-19 virus attempted to take down out economy (it won’t succeed).

Now we have the death of George Floyd, a horrific act that never should have happened. No one should ever have to witness something like that but more important, something like that should never have happened.

So let’s take this time and use it as an opportunity. Let’s take this horrible act and use it for good.

Let’s honor George Floyd in the most beautiful way possible: Let’s make sure that this never happens again.

Let us rise up and change the system that brought us to this point.

We can’t change people’s hearts – but God can.

What we can do is fix the system that keeps people poor. We can fix the systems that don’t allow people to fulfill their potential.

These systems include:
The school system – all children in all neighborhoods should have a good education K-12.  I grew up very poor and had to bust my butt to get ahead.  But I was in the country with only one high school so we all (poor kids & rich kids) had the same education.
The prison system – keeping black men out of prison and rehabilitating them if they were in prison should be top priority. Love him or hate him, President Trump signed a bill to help first time offenders get out quicker.  We need to do more of this.  A system to help convicts get jobs and get their feet on the ground again would help.
The Housing System –we need the change the way people view minorities and make this fairer. Better education and income will help straighten this out but we also need to change the way black people are portrayed by the media and in TV and movies. It is all tied together.
Financing: whether it is a business loan or a home loan – the system needs to be colorblind. If the numbers are there – the loan should be there.

It starts with us. The white people, the upper middle class and the rich need to rally around and make a change. It won’t happen overnight but it can happen.

IT STARTS NOW.

I challenge every business owner and every landlord to look at yourself and your customers and you employees/contractors.

What can you do to help?
• Train people better
• Become a mentor
• Pay for their education
• Give away free classes or mentoring
• Or help fund a small business

You would be shocked at how much good can come from a micro loan or some mentoring. With a better education and income level things should start to change.

Now, the people themselves need to do their part.

The under-privileged need to do their part. No, I’m not blaming the victim. We can’t help people unless they help themselves. Study hard, improve your skill set, and take advantage of the opportunities that are coming your way. Yes, they are coming.

Let’s change the system but also let’s change our mindsets.

The media has portrayed minorities so poorly over the last few years you start to see people differently. We need to change this.

Question your assumptions. Don’t judge people by their cover – everyone does it. We judge their clothes, their shoes, their tattoos, their haircuts, and their make up or lack of. I’m usually in the latter category of little make up. Let’s not look at the outside but look at the inside.

All of us are human. Women should not be objects to men any more than black people should be less than to white people. I’m from Detroit – I don’t use those fancy smancy words like African American and Caucasian so forgive the plain words.  Let’s start seeing everyone as a human being.

Let’s change this world and make it a better place for all.

When all of our brothers and sisters are prosperous and successful, it helps all of us.

It helps out communities, our states and our country. The time is NOW.

Let’s not just go make a difference in the world, Let’s make a different world.
